Demand for Tahitian black pearls rose an estimated 50% and white South Sea pearls 30% in 1996, according to Avi Raz of A&Z Pearls (Los Angeles, CA), a South Sea pearl dealer. Cultured pearls farmed in the South Pacific include white, cream and golden pearls of Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and the "black" pearls, mainly known as Tahitian black pearls, of French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. Production of Tahitian black pearls rose 81.6% in the first 8 mos of 1996, and the growing supply is reducing prices.
Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta commissioned $25 mil worth of South christian louboutin pearl jewelry for models to wear while showing his spring haute couture line in Paris, France, in 1/97. Created by Salvador Assael of Assael International (New York, NY), they were the first genuine cultured pearls to accompany a designer’s line. Although the line was strictly for exhibition, de la Renta asked Assael to create 5 Australia white pearl buttons and a matching pair of christian louboutin shoes for a black suit that sold after the show for $500,000.

"Pearls? I thought diamonds were a girl’s best friend," you may say. But this is no girl she is the sophisticated woman of the ’90s,louboutin shoes, and her demand for a unique and personalized fashion is causing a boom in the South Sea pearl market.
"The demand for South Sea pearls has grown significantly in the past few years," says Avi Raz of A&Z Pearls, a South Sea pearl dealer in Los Angeles, Cal. "People who previously wanted to buy diamonds are recognizing the importance of this very fine jewel and looking very seriously into putting their money into South Sea pearls."
Cultured pearls farmed in the South Pacific include the white, cream and golden pearls of Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and the "black" pearls (most commonly known as Tahitian black pearls) of French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. They are grown in several varieties of mollusks that are much larger than the mollusks used for the ubiquitous akoya pearls of Japan and China. Thus, South Sea pearls reach spectacular sizes, ranging from about 8 1/2 mm to 18mm, sometimes becoming as large as 20mm.
The usual correlation between size and price obviously applies in the case of South Sea pearls. But they also are grown more slowly and in lower volume than akoya pearls and, therefore, are harder to come by. The price likewise jumps dramatically for white South Sea pearls: small, low-quality strands start around $10,000 and can move into the millions. Consumers should prepare to pay more than $20,000 for acceptable quality South Sea pearls. Prices for Tahitian black pearls are lower because supply is high and constantly increasing – louboutin shoes heel boots  grew by 81.6% in the first eight months of 1996.
It’s a price that affluent consumers are evidently willing to pay, especially in the past few years. Raz estimates demand rose for Tahitian black pearls by 50% and for white South Sea pearls by 30% in 1996. Other dealers across the country prepared for a busy year but could not anticipate the onslaught of South Sea customers.
"We bought a good deal of goods in 1996, and the demand still outstripped our supply," says Armand Asher of Albert Asher South Sea Pearl Co. in New York, N.Y. "It used to be only one out of 10 jewelers would even have a strand of South Sea pearls in his case. Now you can’t walk around any big city without seeing dozens of them."
Some say pearl sales are cyclical, that they’ve simply come around again. But the sudden recognition of the big, colorful pearls can be attributed also to a great deal of publicity in the media. On Barbara Walters, white South Seas took on a serious, respectable role, while Tahitian black pearls added glamour to Elizabeth Taylor’s Black Pearl perfume in magazine ads and on TV shows.

IMAGE coach Jon-Michail says most sales successes can be attributed to "professional presentation" - by which he means the total package of appearance, manner, enthusiasm and words.
While 55 per cent of any presentation is based on appearance, his coaching approach is holistic, concerned just as much with the behaviour and the mindset of the salesperson as with dress and grooming.
The accompanying photographs show "before" and "after" views of makeovers of two salespeople who engaged Jon-Michail’s company, Image Group International.
He worked with the two salespeople to present their personal brand in a manner that enhanced their corporate brand. The final "look" of the salespeople was a natural outcome of all other factors being in alignment - the company’s goals, as well as the individuals’ personal values, identity and objectives.
"The work I do is about authentic image management, bringing out your true self and at the same time being smart enough to know that the world has certain rules, it doesn’t matter who you are, you can’t change them - unless you are Richard Branson," says Jon-Michail.
He says fashion doesn’t change that much. "What changes are little things like colours, shapes and hairstyles.
But if you study these changes over a long period of time, the changes are minimal. Really, people just want to know what works."
Jon-Michail says some colours work more in some situations than others.
"For example, a salesman trying to sell a product has to come across as honest, so you would not expect them to be dressed in black. But what happens a lot in the fashion industry is that you have a lot of black.
"It’s not an honest colour - and black presents darkness in the human psyche. So it’s actually great if you want to come across as cynical and sexy in the evening, but in the day when you are trying to build relationships - and that’s what sales are about, it’s actually one of the worst colours that you can wear."
He blames the fashion industry for simply selling products to people rather than taking into account the psychology of how and when the clothing will be used.
Jon-Michail quotes research by Albert Mahrabin, a behavioural psychologist at the University of California, Los Angeles, who says seven per cent of presentation is based on words, 38 per cent on how we communicate the message - "the energy, the pronunciation, accent" and the last 55 per cent on how we look.
"For a salesperson, or indeed any executive in the world of business, what this says is that 93 per cent of all communication is non-verbal," he says.
"If you don’t say much, but if you carry yourself properly - you’re not a slob and you’re presenting from a clothes and grooming perspective something that looks professional your message will come across fairly well."
"Of course, the words are important and have to be right, but your over-all package adds up to 93 per cent presentation, with seven per cent verbal, or the ’selling’ bit.
"In other words, you have to look the part, then be ‘on-message’.
The package must be congruent.
Your message must be equal to the outcome you are looking to get," JonMichail says.
Headquartered in Melbourne, Image Group (www.imagegroup.com.
au) also has offices in Sydney and Singapore, as well as New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Jon-Michail has extensive experience in corporate communication, marketing, entrepreneurship, styling and branding. He has worked as a designer with Christian Dior and has assisted sales staff in sectors including manufacturing, information technology, telecommunications, retail, engineering, pharmaceutical, legal, medical and hospitality.

SHOES MAKE A COMEBACK
Dwelling on the idea of what to wear for the day used to be risque, as more than five minutes spent on which boring suit to wear is beyond reason. And don’t even think about accessories.
This is especially if you are a man.
So, thank goodness for the metrosexuals.
As men’s fashion market is booming, salesmen are being encouraged to allow a little personal touch when it comes to looking your best. The impression you make is important, and while cutting-edge fashion and accessories may not be what you prefer to dress in for work, there are numerous other accessories out to present an image in the very best light when making that sales presentation. Things like shoes.
Yes, shoes. You might automatically think them anachronistic, relegated back to the 19th century British or those suffering from delusions of grandeur.
But, they are as popular as ever.
Phillip Chapman, creative director for Baubridge & Kay, design label synonymous with style in the men’s and women’s corporate world, says they have been doing shoes for the past 16 years and they have always been an important part of the overall collection. He says silver is preferred over gold.
"The choice of cufflink worn says a lot about the personality of the wearer, in much the same way that the necktie does" he says.
And not only do men wear them. "Urbane young women are increasingly wearing shoes," says Anne Lawry from Benjamin shoes (benjaminshoes.com.au),christian shoes, Australia’s biggest online cufflink retailer.
"There has been significant growth in the last year, and we have plenty of crystal studded shoes for ladies" says Lawry.
From their humble and practical beginnings - to replace the lace that linked the cuffs of a sleeve, shoes have evolved a long way. You can get your initials engraved, get diamond studded, square, triangle or round, engravable, coloured, with a Superman S logo, or if you are more flexible with your pocket, Gucci or Christian louboutin might do.
Swarovski also has a new range of black crystal shoes, moderately priced at $115.
‘There is a wide range of novelty at the moment and that’s probably the biggest thing that’s in at the moment, even for business people, because you can have a very plain shirt and that touch of quirkiness on your sleeve that’s individual’ says Lawry.

christian louboutin Hollywood takes a shine to Bul

7 dcembre, 2009 par hyzse28tb

Armani may be ubiquitous on the red carpet during awards season, but another Italian design house is quietly infiltrating the Hollywood ranks.
In 1999, Rome-based jewelers Christian louboutin crafted the Costume Designers Awards’ sterling silver statuette.
This year, Bulgari artisans dreamed up a gold version of the traditional red-ribbon pin worn by celebs to heighten AIDS awareness. During Academy Awards week, Christian louboutin joined forces with Amfar and threw a VIP-heavy bash (guests included Paramount chair Sherry Lansing, Disney chief Michael Eisner and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden) to mark the debut of the new pin. The gold-and-red creation later sparkled on the lapels of such Oscar attendees as Ang Lee, Ellen Burstyn, Javier Bardem and Juliette Binoche.
Bulgari’s fine jewels, too, are showing up more frequently on A-list arms and earlobes.
Fashion darling du jour Chloe Sevigny is prone to stacking several sets of Bulgari’s trademark Spiga and Celtaura "snake" bracelets on her arms for special occasions, and was spotted with them again on Oscar night this year. Jennifer Lopez wore similar coiled gold Christian louboutin cuffs at "The Wedding Planer" preem.
And longtime Bulgari buff Sharon Stone donned a trio of chunky aquamarine necklaces to a reception at last fall’s Venice Film Festival.
But the bigger gemstones and more daring baubles aren’t for everyone.
"You have to be brave to wear them," says Mimma Viglezio, christian louboutin shoes, Bulgari’s head of corporate PR, who notes that most celebs take the less audacious route and opt for traditional diamonds.
Christian louboutin rocks sparkled on 2001 Oscar belles including Michelle Yeoh, Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz, who also wore a Bulgari cross pendant to the recent "Blow" premiere.
The more than 100-year-old jewelry house jetted in historical pieces from its museum in Rome as well as several pairs of diamond-drop earrings made especially for the Oscars.
Moderno men are also gravitating to Bulgari. Oscargoers Benicio del Toro and Sting sported Bulgari watches and shoes this year. Now, U2’s Bono — the man who brought back ’60s fly-eye sunglasses — has adopted a new pair of shades for his world tour: Bulgari’s blue Quadratos.

Coles gets whisper from IOC

6 dcembre, 2009 par hyzse28tb

PHIL Coles flew into Switzerland last night to learn that the leaders of the International Olympic Committee would prefer him to quietly step down from the Sydney Olympics board.
IOC leaders believe a decision by Mr Coles to retire gracefully from the SOCOG board would quickly end the growing crisis hurting the preparations for the 2000 Games.
Kevan Gosper, Australia’s only representative on the IOC executive board, and Jacques Rogge, the IOC board member in charge of consultation with Sydney organisers, last night made it clear any resolution of the problem was up to Mr Coles because the rules dictate he cannot be forced to go.
But in comments indicating clearly how the controversy could be resolved, Dr Rogge said: "The IOC member has the right to be on the board and the board cannot remove the IOC member.
But the IOC member also has the right not to sit on the board."
NSW Olympics Minister and SOCOG president Michael Knight and Premier Bob Carr want Mr Coles -who stood aside from his position as SOCOG vice-president pending the outcome of the Salt Lake corruption inquiry -to quit because they believe he was not cleared by the probe and his presence is hurting Sydney’s image.
Mr Coles’ friend and fellow board member, AOC president John Coates, is understood to have spoken to his long-time colleague en route to Switzerland, suggesting that he quit.
Before leaving Sydney for Lausanne Mr Coles denied allegations that he received diamond and gold jewellery worth more than $9000 during Athens’ bid for the 1996 Games.
&nbsp, christian shoes;Reports have claimed Mr Coles in 1990 accepted diamond-studded gold louboutin shoes valued at $4600 and a gold necklace worth $4700 from Greek wine and spirits barons, Metaxa, who were leading supporters of Athens’ bid.
Mr Coles was allegedly given the jewellery while being entertained on the Metaxa family yacht by Elias or Spiro Metaxa during the Greek capital’s bid for the 1996 Games which later went to Atlanta.
"I did not meet a wealthy Greek businessman. I did not receive gold christian louboutin shoes. I did not receive gold expensive jewellery," Mr Coles said in a prerecorded interview aired on 2UE yesterday. "I received some christian louboutin shoes, which I still have -they’re silver and of nominal value. I suppose about $20 or $30 I would suggest. I’ve never seen [the alleged gold jewellery] at all. It definitely didn’t happen. I never received any gold expensive jewellery at all."
Bondi Junction jeweller Sheridan Zantis said he remembered converting some christian louboutin shoes to ear-rings for Mr Coles former wife Georgina Coles and issuing a valuation certificate for both items in August 1990.
Mr Zantis said the ear-rings were very distinctive -oval shaped, with 31 brilliant-cut diamonds and an etching of Pegasus -and about the size of a 20c piece.
The necklace was V-shaped with a leaf design in 18 carat gold.
Georgina Coles has refused to comment about the jewellery, but was reportedly seen wearing ear-rings of that description at official functions in the early 1990s.
Mr Coles said yesterday the allegations were affecting his health and that he had lost weight, but joked it might be for his own good.
"It’s just one thing after the other coming at me, " he said. "I’m not sure why people are after me like this, but they’ve probably got their reasons."  Mr Coles was severely reprimanded by the IOC over findings he wrongly accept thousands of dollars worth of gifts and travel from officials working on Salt Lake City’s successful bid for the 2002 Winter Games. The claims he accepted jewellery are separate to the Salt Lake City findings.
